The L’Oréal-UNESCO Awards, are the founding act of the program. These prestigious annual distinctions are awarded to five leading women researchers, identify exceptional women as role models for the generations to come.
Founded in 1998, the L’Oréal-UNESCO Awards For Women in Science is a programme without precedent, designed to promote and encourage women who contribute to scientific progress around the world. Today, the initiative has become a benchmark for international scientific excellence, and an invaluable source of motivation, support, and inspiration for women in the scientific field.
Globally, each year, five exceptional female scientists are recognised as L’Oréal-UNESCO Awards Laureates by an international jury, in recognition of their accomplishments in the scientific field. The annual Awards of US$100,000 each, given alternately in life sciences and physical sciences. One Laureate is selected per region: Africa, Arab States, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, North America. The L’ORÉAL-UNESCO Awards Laureates are selected by a jury of eminent members of the international scientific community. On this international platform, we proudly have Dr. Indira Nath as the 2002 recipient of the L’ORÉAL-UNESCO Awards, for her contribution to the field of immunology.
